We are rebuilding Skelmersdale Town Centre with new retail units and public realm, and are bringing forward £38M in investment for two new replacement leisure centres in Ormskirk and Skelmersdale.
We’ve also expanded our outdoor leisure offer with new mountain bike trails and new play areas in our parks, as well as revamping canal towpaths.
We’ve facilitated work opportunities for over 200 young people, with 144 of them securing employment through the KickStart scheme.
We’ve invested in our high streets such as Wheatsheaf walk, and made our streets safer by funding PCSOs and installing more streetlights.
We’re building genuinely affordable homes whilst protecting our precious green belt.
And we’re taking the climate and energy crisis seriously by installing LED lighting, and solar panels on both council buildings and hundreds of council homes, as well as EV charging points, to help with fuel bills.
We’ve supported the delivery of community events such as the artisan market, gingerbread festival, night markets and Skelmersdale’s first Christmas event.
And are making our area greener with the new Tawd Valley, community allotments and orchards, and environmental improvements across the borough.
We’ve helped residents through the pandemic by delivering thousands of food parcels, financially supported our community and charity partners, and paid out businesses grants at pace whilst securing other Government grants to create business champions.
Despite Government cuts totalling 40%, we’ve balanced our budget without cutting services or making any compulsory redundancies. We’ve actually brought services back in-house and modernised the Council to be fit for the 21st century.
