Cllr Maureen Nixon

Maureen has lived in Skelmersdale for almost 40 years and worked at the Bright Beginnings Nursery, supporting children and their families. Through her work as a Borough Councillor, she has supported local people with a range of social issues and is actively involved in fundraising and charity events within the community.

Maureen has raised funds to provide school uniforms to families in need and also organised collections for food banks. She has helped out in breakfast clubs during school holidays and helped start the community garden in Elswick.

Over the past year, Maureen has served as Mayor of West Lancashire, fundraising for her charities

·        Skelmersdale Veterans’ Association

·        West Lancashire Ark

·        Skem Rainbows, Brownies and Guides

and promoting a theme of bringing youth and elderly together, bridging our communities at a time of struggle for many.

She has hosted a Santa’s Grotto at The Buffs, a Halloween Party at the E Rooms, supports the increased Skem Town Centre events schedule including the council-funded Christmas Lights switch-on and Skem Show, and she welcomes Labour’s decisions to bring the Artisan Market to Skelmersdale.

Maureen says:

I have been proud to represent residents of Skelmersdale on the local council over the past 9 years and fighting for improvements and services, despite the whole time having been under a Tory Government who have cut the local budget by 92%.

My commitment remains today as when I first started, working to support residents in my ward, where I live – your problems are my problems.

I’m proud our Labour Council has invested in increased council housebuilding, through setting up our own housebuilding company Tawd Valley Developments, as part of our aim to improve housing standards and availability right across the town.

Please keep reporting to me any issues I can help with and I do hope you can support me to continue to be your voice on local matters, by voting on Thursday 2nd May.
