I am Julie Gibson and I am standing to be elected as your Labour and Co-operative Party Councillor for Ormskirk East in the May 2026 elections. I live and work in Ormskirk and have over 20 years’ combined experience as a local councillor having first been elected in 1999 and I have served at both Borough and County Council level.
I have a background in public service having worked across Lancashire, Merseyside and Cheshire in the voluntary and community sector working with community groups to represent their interests at a local, regional, national, and European level. I have experience of working within and securing vital funding streams to promote Economic and Regeneration programmes across the Lancashire, Merseyside, and Cheshire areas.
I currently work as a local postwoman and am an active member of my trade union the CWU, (Communication Workers Union) where I hold the position of Health and Safety representative for the union. I consult with management on a number of health and safety related issues with the aim to improve the working conditions of all my colleagues so that we can deliver an exceptional service to the public.
Having served at both Borough and County level, I understand the frustration that can often occur between the various levels of responsibility that each council has and the confusion this can cause residents. I am experienced to know and work within the current two-tier structure of our local council and how to take issues forward to either council on behalf of my residents.
With my background in representation and my knowledge of local government I feel I would be the ideal person to represent the residents of Ormskirk East, I hope you will lend me your vote on 7th May 2026.
